Why is health and safety training so boring?

Why is health and safety training so boring?

A question that might have crossed your mind whilst sitting through a three-hour lecture about how to carry heavy boxes.

It could be:

·       Mindset of the trainer

·       Mindset of the candidate

·       Your mindset

The mindset of the trainer

Reading from a PowerPoint slide is not an engaging way to teach people. Citing every single regulation is not the most exciting way to engage anybody (including safety professionals themselves).

Lots of health and safety professionals do training as an add on only, but are not very engaging speakers.

The mindset of the candidate

“Just tell me what you need me to do to stay safe in my job”.

Frankly, no one is going to pay attention to the sections of the course that have no relevancy to their job role.

You only want to know what you need to, and rightly so.

A recent example we’ve found online:

Your mindset

“I don’t give a shit what the regulations say. I want to know what do I need to do to avoid paying a fine or going to prison, or killing my staff.”

We know you want to keep your people safe. We know that you care. It’s time to do health and safety training differently.
